Discipleship Opportunities

- Equipping Through Education -

The Spring semester starts Sunday, April 11th, 2010

(Click Here for Wednesday Evening Classes)

Sunday Mornings at 9:00

Standard Lesson Quarterly Bible Study

Standard Lesson Quarterly combines meaningful Bible study with culturally relevant examples and discussion questions. SLQ is the nation’s most popular adult Bible school lessons based on the International Sunday School Lesson (ISSL) Program. The Spring quarter focuses on Community with a Mission (Jonah, Ruth), Teachings of Jesus (John, Matthew, 1 John, Luke), and Teachings of the Church (Colossians, Philemon, Jude).

Charles Koehler leads the Friendship class at 9:00AM in Rooms 108-109.

Applying The Scriptures and Sermons to Our Daily Life

Join us for a highly dynamic and interactive lesson each week, beginning with a time of Bible Study based based on devotionals in use by class members, then progressing into insightful discussions on the prior Sunday's sermon - how did it affect each of us to reach out to someone in need? We will encourage one another to apply the scriptures to our daily life to transform our hearts and minds to the servant attitude of Jesus.

Steve Moore leads this class at 9:00AM in Room 107.

Building Character Together
Service: Living a Meaningful Life

Jesus said he “did not come to be served, but to serve.” He calls us as his followers to the same lifestyle and attitude of service. But how do we do that? In a world that values power and ease, we need some help in reorienting our hearts as well as our schedules. These six sessions look at key character traits taught and modeled by Jesus that are essential to a life of service in the steps of the Ultimate Servant.

Kelly Reinard and Alan Alesius lead this Small Group at 10:00 in Room 107

Faith Lessons: That The World May Know

Filmed on location in Israel and Turkey, Faith Lessons are in-depth video tours of the buried, distant, or otherwise forgotten places where the events of the Bible actually happened. By weaving together fascinating historical, cultural, religious and geographical contexts, teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan reveals keen insights into the Scriptures' significance for believers in this day and age.

Volume 10: With All Your Heart

Ray Vander Laan takes us on a journey through Sinai and Israel, a region that is still largely desert but at times filled with lush, bountiful places. We will discover how Jesus called people to live in the Promised land. What can we learn during times of abundance and in times of desert. God led his people back to the desert often to relearn the lessons they had forgotten. John the Baptist and Jesus had powerful encounters in the desert. We will learn that the desert is where we are closest to God. It is where our relationship with God is at peace.

Alice Breuninger and Jill Townsend lead this class at 10:00 in Room 108-109.

Acts: The Early Church

The book of Acts is the exciting account of the Christian church's birth and early years. It tells of the violent opposition the young church often faced from both Jews and Gentiles, as well as problems within the church itself. Acts also bears witness to the power of God's Holy Spirit, who guided and empowered the church as it boldly preached the gospel of salvation throughout the Roman world. Find inspiration and challenge for your own Christian life as you study the book of Acts.

Dave Johnson leads this class at 10:00 in Room 106.

Exile and Restoration

The children of Israel did not obey God’s law, and their kings encouraged the worship of false gods. Finally, God sent them into exile, but God still loved them, and finally God returned the exiles to Jerusalem. Through selected readings from Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah, the course explores this difficult time in the lives of God’s people.

Andy Blackwood leads this class at 10:00 in the Prayer Room.

Volume 9: Fire On The Mountain

When the Israelites left Egypt, they were finally free. Free from persecution, free from oppression, and free to worship their own God. But with that freedom comes a new challenge - learning how to live together the way God intends. In this ninth volume of Faith Lessons, discover how God teaches the Israelites what it means to be part of a community that loves him and the lessons we can begin to live out in our lives today.

Wednesday Evening Classes (6:30-8:00PM)

Faith Lessons: That The World May Know

Ray Vander Laan’s Faith Lessons video series weaves together biblical history, culture, religious and geographical context with insights for today's believer. Study the events of Jesus’ life and ministry through volume 3 "On the Life and Ministry of the Messiah" and volume 4 "On the death and resurrection of the Messiah".

Volume 4: Death & Resurrection of the Messiah

Sail the stormy waters of the Sea of Galilee. Confront the gates of hell at Decapolis. Walk the road to Jerusalem where Jesus made His triumphal entry. As you experience Jesus' death and resurrection, you'll discover the power the Savior has given to you to confront the evils of our day and change the world. DVD 1 Contains: When Storms Come (Sea of Galilee): Piercing the Darkness (Kursi): Gates of Hell (Caesarea Philippi): City of the Great King—Part One (Jerusalem): City of the Great King—Part Two (Jerusalem).

Rick Chiavetta leads this class at 6:30 in Room 105.

Miracles: Signs of God's Glory

Most of us could use a miracle. Some physical condition, relationship problem or financial crisis we struggle with could be fixed rather quickly with just one miracle. When we open the pages of the Bible, our desire for a miracle intensifies as we read astonishing stories of God's power poured out. What do these events have to do with us? How can we experience the power of God in the battles we face every day? This Bible study explores the miracles of God to help you discover how he works in our world--yesterday and today.

Bryan Hooper leads this Group Study at 6:30 in the Prayer Room

Entering The Promised Land

After forty years in the wilderness, it was finally time to enter the promised land. Moses was gone, and a new leader, Joshua took his place as God's people moved into the Promised Land. The stories were told over and over by master storytellers before they were finally written down in the Book of Joshua. The book contains some of the most difficult texts, as well as some of the outstanding stories of grace, in the entire Bible. The approach of the course is to read the entire book, using several different translations, to explore the book and to try to relate these texts to our life today.

Andy Blackwood leads this class at 6:30 in Room 120.
