A Curious Conversation

This "Curious Conversation" will be happening on May 17th and will be held at our church!  It is a great opportunity to learn more about Justice and what we as Presbyterians can offer.

The topic this time is about justice vs. injustice. This discussion is one of the oldest and most important questions in philosophy, politics, religion and everyday life. What does it mean to treat people fairly—and what happens when we don’t? What role does mercy have? What does Scripture tell us? What role does our faith play in our actions?

This will be the fourth in the series of four Curious Conversation events being sponsored by Highland's Matt 25 Committee and Donegal Presbytery's Racial Justice Task Group. In these Brave Spaces, we have been learning about and experimenting with healthy dialogue about challenging topics. In our polarized world, having healthy dialogue about contentious issues can feel impossible. The Curious Conversations model to approach these hard conversations was developed by the Rev. Dr. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker, pastor of Derry Presbyterian Church in Hershey, PA. Based on seeking to understand others’ perspectives — even when we passionately disagree — these Curious Conversations are an opportunity to practice listening, to learn to ask genuine questions, to stay in the room with difference, and to humanize our ideological opponents. The gathering is not to debate or change minds, but to be curious, to seek understanding, and to learn from one another. Please join us!
