Parables: Reading the Stories of Jesus in a New Light
Telling stories, parables, was a central facet of Jesus’s approach to sharing his message and vision. He was doing more than telling simple morality tales. His stories were grounded in the world in which he lived and his vision of the kingdom of God. Over a six-week period, this class will look at six of Jesus’s parables within their original context as well as what they mean for us today. Be ready to hear some fresh perspectives on these stories: Wine and Wineskins, the Mustard Seed, the Leavened Bread, the Wedding Party, the Workers in the Vineyard, and the Wicked Tenants.
This mini-series will use videos created by Josh Scott, the minister at GracePointe Church in Nashville. Each week we will view a 10-minute video on one parable and then have a casual discussion. Each class session is independent, so it’s ok if you can’t come every week. And there is no homework, so drop in anytime!
This mini-series class will run for 6 sessions on Sundays from 10:45 to 11:30 am in room 107-109. Nursery care is available. The first session is September 14 and addresses “Wine and Wineskins.” We hope you will join us!
